Frequently Asked Questions

We've been proudly operating our family-run business since 2015. To assist you, we've compiled answers to some of our most frequently asked questions below. If you don’t find what you’re looking for, feel free to call or text us at 614.226.2757 or 614.352.9495—we’re happy to help!

Before you dive in, here are a couple of important tips:

1. Double-check your location.
When searching for your getaway, make sure you're looking in Hocking County, Logan, Ohio—not Logan County, Oklahoma! Over the years, we’ve had guests accidentally book their retreat a little too far away. While Oklahoma may be lovely, it’s not quite ideal for a quick weekend escape!

2. Book early, especially for larger groups.
If you're planning a trip with a big group, the earlier you book, the better. Our lodges fill up fast, and coordinating availability can be the hardest part. Once your group has settled on dates, secure your reservation as soon as possible. Our calendars open 18 months in advance, so don’t wait too long!

We have several properties located on shared or split driveways, adjacent to each other, and within walking distance. These "sister properties" enable us to accommodate a variety of travel arrangements and requests.

  • How many cars can fit in the parking area? Are the roads to the cabin(s) accessible year round? Is 4-wheel drive necessary?

Hocking Lodging Company’s cabins and lodges are designed for year-round enjoyment. However, please be aware that our properties are located in the Hocking Hills, where road and driveway conditions can be challenging.

For your safety, we strongly recommend using all-wheel drive or 4-wheel drive vehicles year-round, and some properties require 4WD during inclement weather. Many of our driveways are long and steep, and we have received reports of minivans and sedans becoming stuck over the years.

    🚫 Important Policies:

    • No refunds will be issued due to weather, road conditions, or vehicles getting stuck.
    • Off-road vehicles (golf carts, ATVs, 4-wheelers, etc.) are not permitted.
    • Only park in designated parking areas. Do not park/drive on grass at any time.
    • Please plan accordingly, as we do not offer refunds related to driving conditions.

Below, you'll find details on the maximum number of mid-sized vehicles that can fit in each property's parking area, as well as information on which locations require 4-wheel drive in poor weather conditions.

  • What are the check-in and check-out times? Can I request an early check-in or late check-out? Can I check in after dark?

All of our properties have a 4:00 PM check-in and a 10:30 AM check-out (11:00 AM at our couple’s cabins). Unfortunately, without prior arrangements for custom charges for potential early arrivals/late departures, we are unable to accommodate early arrivals or late departures due to the necessary time required for thorough cabin cleaning and hot tub maintenance.

Even if the availability calendar appears open, please note that we manage over 30 properties, with housekeeping and maintenance carefully scheduled between stays. This time ensures the best experience for both our guests and our hardworking staff. We truly appreciate your understanding and respect for their workload.

🔹 Important: If housekeeping or maintenance vehicles are still on-site, please do not enter the lodge. The key will not be available in the lockbox (or the keyless entry will not be activated) until 10 minutes before your scheduled check-in time.

To make the most of your trip to the Hocking Hills region, we recommend arriving early to explore the area before check-in. Pack a cooler for any cold items and enjoy some hiking, picnicking, shopping, or entertainment while we ready your space for your 4pm arrival!

🔹 Important: You can check in after dark, but please keep in mind that our properties are in a very rural area with no street lighting. We recommend arriving before sunset if possible, as it will make navigating the roads and finding your property easier. If you do arrive after dark, be sure to bring a flashlight or use your phone’s light for better visibility. Let us know your estimated arrival time, and we’ll provide any additional guidance you may need!

  • I’m traveling with a Service Animal or Support Animal. What do I need to know?

We first ask whether your animal is a Service Animal or a Support Animal to determine the applicable policies.

    • Service Animals: Under the ADA (Title II & III), a service animal is trained to perform specific tasks for an individual with a disability. We may ask, “What specific tasks does the animal perform?” Service animals do not require a license or certification, must never be left alone, and are legally permitted at our properties without pet fees.
    • Support Animals (Emotional Support Animals): Unlike service animals, support animals are not covered under the ADA. They may require a license or certification but are subject to our standard pet policies. Support animals (dogs) incur pet fees, must fall under our 40 pound weight limit, and are only permitted at our dog-friendly locations.
  • Are any of your accommodations dog-friendly? What other details do we need to know when traveling with pets?

While we welcome furry visitors at several cabins and lodges, we ask that you only bring your dogs to our advertised pet-friendly accommodations.

All spaces below can accept up to 2 dogs (under 40 pounds each) for $40/pet/stay. You will register them at your time of booking.

As responsible pet owners, here are the guidelines to be followed:

Pet Approval: Guests must seek prior approval to bring dogs, including details about the type and number of pets. Unregistered/paid dogs may be asked to leave immediately and/or incur fines outlined in the leasing agreement/rules of space.

Pet Fees: Additional fees are charged for bringing dogs; $40/dog/stay, with a maximum of 2 dogs.

Leash Policy: When outside the cabin/on property, pets should be kept on a leash and under control at all times. Guests must clean up after their pets outside. Bring necessary clean up supplies/baggies.

Indoor Behavior: Pets are not allowed on furniture or beds, and guests must clean up after their pets inside. Bring necessary bedding and accident supplies.

Crate Policy: If dogs will be left alone at any point during a stay, they MUST be crated. Bring necessary arrangements. In the event maintenance needs to enter your space, you must crate/contain your pet prior to arrival. Failure to crate your dog(s) can result in immediate removal.

Damage Responsibility: Guests are responsible for any damage caused by their pets and may be charged for repairs or extra cleaning.

No Excessive Barking/Quiet Hours: Guests must ensure their pets do not disturb neighbors, particularly during designated quiet hours of 10pm-8am.

Health Requirements: Pets should be up to date on vaccinations and flea treatments. Proof may be required.

  • What are your policies for smoking, fireworks, and open flames?

    • Smoking & Vaping: Smoking and vaping are only permitted in designated gravel parking areas or around fire pits. Please dispose of cigarette butts properly—never in the fire pits—and refrain from smoking or vaping inside any cabin, lodge, or enclosed space. A cleaning fee will apply for any violations.
    • Fireworks: For the safety of our guests, the property and our public lands, fireworks are strictly prohibited.
    • Open Flames: Open flames, including candles and bonfires, are not allowed except in designated fire pits or grilling areas. Please follow all fire safety guidelines and ensure flames are fully extinguished after use.
  • Can you provide details about your hot tubs?

At Hocking Lodging Company, every property features at least one year-round hot tub for your enjoyment. Most are located under covered porches, allowing you to relax in comfort no matter the season. Few experiences are as peaceful as unwinding in the warm, bubbling water while snowflakes or raindrops gently fall around you.

    Important Notes:

    • Towels are not provided for hot tub use—please bring your own.
    • While we regularly maintain and monitor our hot tubs, refunds will not be issued for malfunctions or rare instances where use is unavailable during your stay.
    • Our hot tubs are routinely cleaned and continuously sanitized for your safety.
    • Damage to hot tub covers will result in a charge equal to the exact replacement cost.
    • Glass is strictly prohibited in or around the hot tub—please use disposable cups or cans instead.
    • Be sure to use the provided chemicals for after use instructions found in your accommodation.
    • If a hot tub is left excessively dirty, additional cleaning fees will apply.
We appreciate your cooperation in helping us maintain a clean and relaxing experience for all guests.

  • Is there a body of water on the property? Can you fish, kayak, or swim?

Outside of our hot tubs, select properties offer access to substantial bodies of water. The following graph outlines which properties have water views or access for fishing and kayaking.

    Please note:

    • Enter at your own risk – private lakes and ponds are not monitored or maintained.
    • Swimming is not permitted in any private lakes or ponds.
    • Fishing licenses are not required for private ponds/lakes but are necessary for the Hocking River and Lake Logan.
    • Kayaks on public waters must be properly licensed.
    • Lake Logan is a “no wake lake.” Licensed fishing boats and pontoon boats are permitted and can be rented at the state-run marina.

Hocking Lodging Company does not offer swimming pools or private swimming areas in lakes/ponds.

    • Stay Informed: We encourage guests to stay updated on weather forecasts and alerts. Our team will also provide relevant updates via text, email, or phone if severe weather is expected.

Our standard cancellation policies will apply, therefore it will be important to consider purchasing travel insurance; but we strive to be flexible in extenuating circumstances on our end.

In the event of an outage, we recommend having an additional supply of water, flashlights, charged devices, and any other necessary items on hand. If an outage occurs, you will not be able to wash hands, flush toilets, or use any bathroom/kitchen facilities. We’ll do our best to provide updates and assist you as needed.
    • Emergency Preparedness: We encourage guests to prepare for varying weather conditions by packing an emergency kit and keeping essential items on hand.

  • Are there any security deposits or additional fees?

Yes, there may be security deposits and additional fees depending on your reservation location:

    • Security Deposit: Some lodges and cabins require a refundable security deposit, which will be specified in your booking confirmation. Deposits range from $500 to $1,500, depending on the accommodation, and are due by check 30 days prior to arrival. This deposit covers potential damages, policy violations, or failure to follow checkout procedures.
      • The check will be deposited/cashed and refunded via a new check issued within 7 days of departure, provided the property is left in good condition, the leasing agreement has been followed, and all checkout instructions have been completed.
      • Details on the exact amount and due date will be included in your reservation acceptance email.
    • Cleaning Fees: A one-time cleaning fee applies to all stays and varies based on the size of the rental. This fee ensures the cabin or lodge is thoroughly cleaned and prepared for the next guest.
    • Pet Fees: If you’re bringing a pet to a pet-friendly rental, an additional pet fee will apply. Please check specific pet policies before booking.
    • Processing Fees: Some bookings may include a processing or service fee, which will be disclosed at checkout.

  • Do you offer discounts for military, last-minute bookings, or have any other special offers?

Yes! We appreciate our military guests, first responders, and veterans and may offer a special discount—please reach out to inquire.

We also occasionally provide discounts for last-minute bookings, depending on availability.

The best ways to stay informed about exclusive special offers:

    • Subscribe to our monthly email newsletter (link found at footer on website)
    • Opt-in to receive insider/VIP text message specials. (link found at footer on website)

Contact us to sign up and be the first to know about our latest deals and promo codes.

  • Why is there a "tip jar/tip envelope" at the property? Who gets this?

While we provide our cleaning and maintenance crews with competitive wages, many guests find it rewarding to offer tips as a gesture of appreciation. Tipping is completely optional, but it’s encouraging to see these funds go directly to the hardworking individuals who ensure your stay is exceptional, rather than to corporate overhead.

As a family-run business, we consider our employees part of our extended family—they’ve been with us since our very first days! We deeply value our staff and hope you recognize their dedication as well. If you feel that the lodge was beautifully prepared for your arrival or if you believe our team deserves a little extra for their efforts, please feel free to contribute directly to them using the envelopes or jars provided. However, please never feel obligated to do so. Your satisfaction is our top priority!

  • Are baby/toddler items available for use during our stay?

While we have designed our lodges with guests of all ages in mind, including convenient first-floor master bedrooms and primary living spaces on the main level, we do not provide baby or toddler items such as cribs or high chairs. Many of our bedrooms have space for travel pack ‘n plays, allowing your little ones to nap peacefully behind closed doors.

Unfortunately, we do not provide baby or toddler items, such as cribs, high chairs, or safety gates. Due to the ever-changing safety codes and regulations surrounding these items, we cannot guarantee their compliance with current standards. We recommend bringing your own equipment to ensure the safety and comfort of your little ones during your stay.

  • What should I bring for my stay?

We’re happy to provide the essentials, including linens for the beds and baths, as well as a supply of toilet paper, paper towels, hand soap, dish soap, dish detergent, and trash bags to get you through your stay. However, we recommend bringing any personal items you may need, such as:

    • Toiletries beyond the basics (e.g., your preferred shampoo, conditioner, and bath soap)
    • Medications or personal health items
    • Swimsuits and hot tub towels
    • Important: We provide one bath towel and washcloth per registered guest, so you may want to bring extra hair towels and hot tub towels.
    • If your accommodation advertises a washer and dryer, bring preferred detergent and dryer balls
    • Food, beverages, seasonings, oils, and spices
    • Ground coffee or K-cups for the described coffee appliances (don’t forget your favorite creamer and sweeteners)
    • Storage containers, bags, foil, plastic wrap, etc., for leftovers
    • Bottled water: While our well water is 100% potable, it may have an odor or taste. You might prefer bringing bottled water and bags of ice instead
    • If your accommodation has a charcoal grill, you’ll need to bring briquettes and lighter fluid
    • Hiking boots and outdoor gear, including sunscreen and insect repellant
    • Flashlights (if arriving after dark) and in the event of power outages
    • Wood, lighters, and fire starter for fireplaces and/or fire pits (firewood is available for about $10 per bundle at local grocery stores, gas stations, and convenience stores)

If you have any specific needs or questions about what to bring, don’t hesitate to reach out before your stay!

  • Do your cabins have wifi and/or cell coverage?

Our cabins are located in many beautiful, remote areas surrounded by nature, which means Wi-Fi and cell service can be limited or unavailable at some of our properties. While we do advertise Wi-Fi wherever it is available, we recommend you prepare for the possibility of weak or no cell service during your stay, especially if you plan to spend time in the woods or in more secluded areas.

If you need to stay connected, we suggest letting others know in advance and making necessary arrangements before your arrival. For those looking to truly disconnect and enjoy the peace of nature, it’s a great opportunity to unplug! Let us know if you have any specific concerns or need assistance planning your stay.

  • Are events, weddings, special gatherings, or parties allowed?

We love hosting guests for intimate special occasions! However, events and parties are subject to certain guidelines to ensure a pleasant experience for all our guests and neighbors.

We do not accommodate house parties, graduation parties, bachelor parties, or similar events. As a family-run business, we take great pride in the upkeep and care of our properties and ask that our guests do the same.

    Please note the following:

    • Size and Scope: Smaller gatherings may be permitted, but we ask that you limit the number of attendees to the maximums permitted for any space to ensure comfort and compliance with property regulations.
      • These occupancy limits are set for several reasons, including well and septic system capacity, safety regulations, noise considerations, parking availability, property maintenance, and the scheduling demands on our cleaning staff. We are unable to host gatherings above our noted guest maximums.
    • Approval Required: All events or parties must be pre-approved by our management team. Please contact us in advance to discuss your plans, and we’ll do our best to accommodate your request.
    • Additional Fees: Depending on the nature of the event, additional fees and security deposits may apply. We’ll provide you with all the necessary information during the approval process.
    • Noise Restrictions: We have a strict noise policy in place to respect the tranquility of our surroundings. All events must conclude by a specified time to avoid disturbing other guests.

If you have any questions or would like to discuss hosting an event during your stay, please don’t hesitate to reach out. We’re here to help!

  • Is there a noise curfew? Are quiet hours enforced?

Yes, we have established quiet hours to ensure a peaceful and enjoyable experience for all our guests and neighbors.

Quiet Hours: Our designated quiet hours are from 10 PM to 8 AM. During this time, we kindly ask all guests to keep noise levels to a minimum to respect the comfort of others.

Enforcement: Depending on the season we’re in, while you may not be able to “see” your neighbors, make note that we have many full-time residents nearby who can certainly hear you. Our property management team actively enforces these quiet hours. If noise complaints are received, we will address them promptly to maintain a serene environment for everyone.

We appreciate your cooperation in helping us create a relaxing atmosphere for all our guests. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to reach out!

  • What tasks are expected at checkout?

Although check-out isn’t the most exciting part of your stay, we aim to make it as easy as possible. Check-out times vary by location and are clearly stated, but generally, check-out for couples cabins is by 11 AM, and for accommodations with 4 or more guests, it's by 10:30 AM, as we work to prepare for the next guests in the limited time available.

    CHECK-OUT INSTRUCTIONS:

    1. Treat the home as your own. Please return items to their original places, leave the space as you found it, and notify us immediately if anything is broken or runs out.
    2. Strip the sheets (top, fitted, and pillowcases) from all used beds and leave them on the bedroom floors. Leave comforters, quilts, and decorative pillows in place. Do not strip pillow shams.
    3. Place all dirty towels (including kitchen cloths) on the bathroom floors or in tubs.
    4. Empty the refrigerator of its contents, load any dirty dishes/silverware into the dishwasher and begin a cycle (if the accommodation has one) or hand wash any dishes. Wipe down all counters.
    5. All trash (inside and outside) must be placed in the critter-proof commercial dumpster at check-out. To make this easier, we recommend periodically transporting trash bags to the dumpster as you explore the area. Simply place the bags on your vehicle and drive them to the dumpster. Do not leave loose trash or bags outside unless they are in a sealed, critter-proof can.
    6. Set thermostats to 60°F for heat (in cool months) and 75°F for cooling (in warm months).
    7. Turn off all interior and exterior lights, fans, and lock all doors.

  • What wildlife might I encounter near the cabins/in the area?

The area surrounding our cabins is home to a variety of wildlife, adding to the natural beauty of your stay. You may encounter creatures such as:

    • Deer: Commonly seen in the area, especially during dawn and dusk. Be cautious while driving.
    • Wild turkeys: Often roam the grounds, particularly in wooded areas.
    • Black bears: While sightings are very rare, they are periodically present in the region. We encourage caution and advise storing food properly to avoid attracting them.
    • Coyotes: These are sometimes heard at night, but they typically avoid human contact.
    • Raccoons, squirrels, and other small mammals: These creatures are often active and can be seen foraging around the cabins.
    • Birds: A variety of birds, including hawks, owls, and songbirds, can be spotted throughout the area.
    • Snakes and other reptiles: While non-venomous species are common, it's always good to be aware of your surroundings.

To prevent attracting wildlife, we require guests to remove trash from outdoor bins, avoid leaving loose trash or tied bags outside, and dispose of everything in the provided critter-proof dumpster during their stay.

Remember, we are in a rural and wooded environment, so it’s important to respect wildlife from a distance. If you spot any, enjoy the view, but avoid feeding or approaching them. If you have concerns or want advice on staying safe around wildlife, feel free to reach out!

      • Nestled in the woods along a secluded lane, these 7 couples cabins—American Hollow, Bearadise Cove, Nature’s Paradise, Silver Wolf, The Lakota, Trail Ridge, and Yesteryear—are designed for privacy and relaxation. Enjoy a soak in the private hot tub, grill on the deck, and unwind without worrying about spotting neighbors on the back deck. However, if you're feeling social, rock on the front porch and wave to only those fellow guests that may be passing by.
      • RV Sites 1, 2, 3, and 4:
        • These four RV sites are adjacent but spaced generously apart, ensuring a balance of community and privacy. With only four spots available, you'll have limited neighbors, creating a peaceful camping experience.
      • Tumbleweed & Margaritaville:
        • Tucked away on their own secluded lane, these two cabins are deep in the woods, offering a true escape into nature.

We maintain a policy of quiet hours after 10 PM across all lodges to ensure a relaxing environment for all guests. If you have any further questions, feel free to ask!
